Scott Hembree Memorial

Scott was the 5th of six children. He is the first sibling that I have lost. I was with him when he passed. Somehow it was comforting after seeing him in so much pain just two days before when I took him to the Emergency Room.
He survived throat cancer last year. He was receiving SSI, which is barely enough to live on. He had no life insurance. I am trying to help my nieces come up with the money to cover the funeral and burial cost. We had to come up with half of it before the funeral. We succeeded, but now the remainder has to be paid and we would like to get him a headstone.
Any amount will help. Times are hard for everyone right now. He has 3 daughters, they are struggling just like me to make ends meet.
If anyone can and wants to help donate for the funeral and burial, please follow the instructions highlighted in blue below in his obituary.
Please leave your name and address so we can send you a thank you card.
          Every little bit is appreciated.

Please make sure you have an insurance policy to at least cover the cost of your funeral expenses so you don't leave a burden on your family. And if you are on a blood thinner, don't put off having your blood checked regularly. It may prevent your premature death.

Corwin Scott Hembree, age 48 of Berea, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, KY. He had a brain aneurysm and was in a coma from Monday until Wednesday when he died. Scott was born Dec. 5, 1960, son of the late Ewell and Sarah Adair Hembree. He was proud of being a cancer survivor! Scott was very talented and loved doing things with his hands, loved writing poems, songs, drawing and woodwork. He was the comedian of the family and always made people laugh.

Scott wanted to donate his organs but was unable to do so. The family would like to thank KODA (Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates) for coming to the hospital to talk to us about the Organ Donation Program and answering all our questions. Scott was hoping he would be a match for a kidney transplant for his Uncle Israel (Ike) Hembree of Berea, but unfortunately, he was not.

The family would also like to thank Scotts friend, David Goins for being there for Scott and keeping him company in the evenings. That meant so much to Scott and he looked forward to the evenings so they could spend time together just hanging out sitting on the porch and talking. The family just wants David to know how much that meant to them, because we know Scott cherished his friendship and looked forward to each visit. The family would also like to thank the doctors and staff at Central Baptist Hospital for being so helpful, kind and supportive during his stay in the ICU.

He is survived by 3 daughters; Mary (Josh) Wright of Winchester, Tiffany Hembree of Richmond, Tammy Potter of Lexington; 5 siblings Ewell Hembree, Mary Estes, Jane Hembree, Dawn Brown, Mike Hembree; a half-sister, Pam Abrams; 2 grandchildren, Christian Scott Potter, Emma Wright; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Service 1:00PM, Friday, July 3, 2009 at Reppert Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Woods and Bro. David Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Pilot Knob Cemetery, Berea, KY. Visitation after 11:00AM on Friday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be: Chad Hembree, Brian Smith, Ricky Hembree, Charlie T Hembree, Craig Hembree and Marty Hembree. Honorary Pallbearers: Ewell Hembree, Mike Hembree, Chris Hembree, David Goins, Israel (Ike) Hembree, Bruce Hembree, Jarrod Hembree, Justize Davis, Greg Bolton.

The family request donations to help with funeral and burial expenses be made directly to Reppert Funeral Home 110 N. Broadway, Berea, KY 40403, Phone: (859) 986-3165  Fax: (859) 986-9231, or to The Scott Hembree Memorial Fund at any Fifth Third Bank (under the name of Teresa Brown or Olevia Hembree), or to The Scott Hembree Memorial Fund at any Peoples Bank (under the name of Jane Hembree).

He will be missed by many. His days on earth seemed short, but those memories are precious to us all. He cheated death a few times, but this time the Lord wanted him home with Him. We know he is no longer in pain or suffering.
